16. Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie (2012)
It’s an odd sensation to be both impressed and disappointed at the same time. I like Tim and Eric, their show makes me laugh. It’s a strange high concept and yet very stupid brand of humor, but it makes me laugh. When I interviewed the people who made The Heart, She Holler , they said that when you make a show for Adult Swim you hope you’re making something so stupid that it’s smart, or something so smart, it’s stupid. Sadly, this is more stupid without the hope of achieving smart. I enjoyed the strange collection of cameos (Ray Wise, Robert Loggia, William Atherton) but none of them really save the film.
It’s difficult to take a sketch show and give it a straight forward plot to deal with for an hour and half, and it rarely works (except Kids in the Hall Death Comes to Town, which I hope they do again, not the same thing but something similar), and this is just another case of it failing.
