22. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011)
What an awful piece of crap this film is. The lead boy is absolutely annoying, and the kid playing him is terrible. Yes, the film mentions that he might be on the spectrum, but this just seemed more like a bratty poorly written child than someone possibly suffering aspergers.
The script is very manipulative. It plays like it’s running to a constant drum beat, a thrumming that just keeps repeating “9-11, cry now, 9-11, cry now, 9-11, cry now, 9-11, cry now, 9-11, cry now…”
It was like being in an abusive relationship for two hours.
I suppose I should read the book at some point, I’ve heard it’s great, but this disaster is truly terrible. If not for one scene towards the end I’d be giving this film a zero, which I rarely do. As it stands:
